We went to the local farmer’s market today and although it was nice to get out it was hot. As in burn my little tooties and make my tongue hang out hot! Needless to say, mama carried me like good mamas do. Then we stumbled upon these nifty cooling bandanas that you soak in cold water and wrap around your neck to keep you cool. Of course mama got me one and I ended up wearing it the rest of the day.
Before your own people take you out for a walk, I have a few suggestions that would make it much more pleasant if it’s a really hot day:
- Make sure you have plenty of water.
- Know where shade is available so you can take a cool down break.
- You can always invest in an awesome doggie cooling jacket like this one that I have.
- Realize that a dog’s paws are bare and that hot asphalt can burn those precious little tootsies.
I have little booties I can wear too but I can’t say I really like them. I end up just standing there not really sure what to do except looking goofy. Luckily I’ve learned that when I want to be held or carried I just climb up on mama and ask and she picks me right up.
In other words, no booties necessary!
Dogs can suffer heat complications just like people can so be careful out there!
